These terms apply to 3D scanning, CAD design, inspection and related work by Revv Engineering (“Revv Engineering”, “we”, “us”), based in Reno, Nevada, and to anything we deliver. By asking us to do the work, you agree to them. Your written quote, proposal or contract can add to or change these terms for your project; where they differ, that document applies.
We are not licensed professional engineers
Revv Engineering is not a licensed professional engineering firm, and none of its staff are licensed professional engineers. Work that requires a licensed professional engineer is done by an independent licensed engineer under their own license.
“Engineering” in our name and “reverse engineering” (the industry term for turning a scan into a CAD model) describe our 3D scanning, measurement and CAD design services. They are not an offer of professional engineering services. Our founder holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering; that degree is not a license to practice professional engineering.
Work that needs a licensed engineer
Some work legally requires a licensed professional engineer (PE): for example, a design that must be stamped or sealed, or that a building code, authority or regulation requires a PE to prepare or approve. If your project needs that, we’ll tell you before the work starts. That part of the work is done by an independent professional engineer licensed for it, under their own license and seal, either subcontracted through us or engaged by you directly. The licensed engineer is responsible for the work they seal. We never stamp, seal or certify anything ourselves.
You check and approve every design
We provide design services: scan data, CAD models, drawings, renders and inspection reports. We are not licensed to approve any design as an engineered component or assembly, and nothing we deliver is a certification that a part or assembly is strong enough, safe or fit for a particular use.
You are responsible for:
- checking every design, model, drawing and report we deliver for completeness, accuracy, fit, strength and safety before you use it;
- having it reviewed and approved by a qualified, licensed professional wherever its use calls for one, such as load-bearing, structural, pressure, lifting, safety-critical or road-legal parts;
- testing parts made from our files before relying on them, and how they are manufactured, installed and used.
Aircraft: our scans, models and reports support your engineering work. They don’t approve anything for flight. Decisions about parts, modifications, airworthiness and return to service stay with you and your certified organization.
Estimates, quotes and changes
- The instant estimate is a budget range, not a quote. We give you a firm price in writing after we review your details.
- If the work changes from what was quoted (more parts, different deliverables, problems we couldn’t see in photos), we’ll tell you and agree the change before doing the extra work.
- Payment terms are stated on your quote or invoice. Final files are released when the invoice is paid, unless your quote says otherwise.
Your parts, vehicles and shipping
- We take reasonable care of anything you drop off or ship to us. You cover shipping both ways; insure valuable items for transit, because we aren’t responsible for loss or damage by the carrier.
- Scanning may involve small removable positioning targets and a scanning spray that evaporates on its own. Tell us before we start if any surface must not be touched, marked or sprayed.
- Please collect dropped-off items promptly once the work is done. We’ll arrange a pickup time with you.
On-site work
For on-site jobs, you provide safe access to the object, ordinary power, permission for us to be there, and someone who knows your site rules. We follow those rules, and we can pause or stop if conditions aren’t safe. Some on-site scanning is done by a trusted partner technician working to our process; we tell you before the job who will be on site, and we stay your contact throughout.
Accuracy and inspection
- “Accuracy up to 0.04 mm (0.0016 in)” is the manufacturer’s specification for our main scanner, a Creaform HandySCAN SILVER. Scanners we use for some jobs, such as the HandySCAN MAX for very large objects, have different specifications. Real results depend on the object’s size, surface and condition, the setup and the environment.
- A scan records a part as it is today, including wear, damage and distortion, not as it was designed. Tell us if you need a model of the original design intent.
- Our inspection reports are for your own fit and design decisions. They aren’t certified first-article inspection or calibrated metrology, and we don’t issue traceable calibration certificates.
Your right to have it scanned
You confirm that you own the object or have permission to have it scanned, modeled and reproduced, and that doing so doesn’t infringe anyone else’s patents, designs, copyrights or trademarks. We may decline any job.
Your files and confidentiality
- Raw scan data, processed models and other files we create are solely the property of Revv Engineering until your project is paid in full. Once we receive full payment, ownership of the project’s scan data and files passes to you.
- We keep a copy to support future work on the same project and for the uses described here, unless you ask us in writing to delete it.
- CAD data, drawings and dimensional data you supply remain your property, and we don’t share them outside Revv Engineering without your knowledge.
- We may use anonymized, non-identifying scan data or screenshots in our portfolio, marketing or case studies, unless you ask us in writing to keep your project confidential. We never name you as a client without your written permission.
- Apart from that, we keep your information, project details and files confidential and don’t share them without your written permission, unless the law requires it.
- We reuse or sell scan data from your project only if you give us written permission, or if you haven’t paid for the project by the payment deadline in your contract (or, if your contract doesn’t set one, within 45 days after payment was due).
- How we handle information from this website is covered in our privacy policy.
Our responsibility and its limits
We do the work with reasonable care and skill. If a deliverable doesn’t match what we agreed, tell us promptly and we’ll correct it. Apart from that, to the extent the law allows, deliverables are provided as is, without any other warranty, including fitness for a particular purpose.
To the extent the law allows, our total liability for any project is limited to the amount you paid us for that project, and we aren’t liable for indirect or consequential losses such as lost profits, downtime or the cost of parts made from our files.
You agree to cover us against claims by others arising from how you or anyone you supply uses our deliverables or parts made from them, or from your instructions or the objects you ask us to scan.
Nevada law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Nevada. Disputes are handled in the courts of Washoe County, Nevada.
Changes and questions
We may update these terms; the date at the top shows the latest version, and the version in place when you accepted your quote applies to that project. Questions? Use our contact form.
