3D Laser Scanning
Revv Engineering scans parts, vehicles and aircraft sections with handheld blue-laser and structured white-light 3D scanners, with accuracy up to 0.03 mm (0.0012 in). Drop your part off at our Reno shop, ship it in, or have us scan it where it sits. You get a clean STL, OBJ or PLY mesh you can design to, inspect against or archive.
- Cleaned, merged mesh in STL, OBJ or PLY
- Mesh aligned to a coordinate system you choose, such as vehicle centerline, wheel centers or a mounting face
- Reduced-size copy of very large meshes on request, for smoother handling in CAD
- Optional upgrade to STEP, Parasolid (X_T) or IGES through scan-to-CAD modeling

Reverse Engineering & Scan-to-CAD
A 3D scan gives you a mesh: millions of triangles that show shape but can't be edited like a CAD part. We rebuild that geometry as a parametric SolidWorks model with real features and dimensions, then deliver STEP, Parasolid (X_T) or IGES files your machinist, fabricator or engineering team can use. Because we also design race-truck chassis and suspension, we can take the next step and design the part that fits.
- Solid CAD model as STEP, Parasolid (X_T) or IGES
- Assemblies split into individual parts when the job calls for it
- Dimensioned 2D drawings on request
- The cleaned scan mesh (STL, OBJ or PLY) for reference

3D Scanning Inspection
A deviation map shows, in color, where a fabricated part, weldment or fixture departs from its CAD model and by how much. We scan the part, align it to your model the way it's actually located, and hand back color maps with measured callouts at the features you care about. It's engineering verification for builders who need answers before the next weld or the next batch, not a certified lab report.
- Color deviation maps of scan versus CAD
- Measured callouts at critical features such as holes, faces and tube locations
- Cross-section comparisons through areas of interest
- Summary PDF noting which areas fall inside and outside your tolerance

On-Site 3D Scanning
Some things shouldn't be moved: an aircraft on the ramp, an engine on its stand, a car halfway through a build, machinery bolted to the floor. Our handheld blue-laser and structured-light scanners travel in hard cases and run from a laptop and ordinary shop power, so we set up beside the work instead of shipping it. We're based in Reno, regularly serve Reno-Tahoe, Northern Nevada and Northern California, and travel anywhere in the US.
- Cleaned, aligned mesh (STL, OBJ or PLY) of everything scanned on site
- Scan-to-CAD models in STEP, Parasolid (X_T) or IGES when ordered
- Deviation maps and measured callouts when the visit includes inspection
- File delivery by the transfer method your data policy requires
